The Mallorca Masters Challenge put the island's roads and riders at the centre of this week's cycling news. Gastón Montenegro and Raúl Patiño finished as category winners, while Enric Mas looked back on his Vuelta victory through a quality that is not always associated with elite sport: humility. Two significant cancellations and a pair of new bikes complete a varied edition.

🏆 Mallorca crowns the Masters Challenge winners
The 29th Challenge Vuelta a Mallorca Masters finished in Playa de Muro on 16 October after four days of racing. Gastón Montenegro, riding for CC Mancor de la Vall with a Balearic licence, won the Masters 30-40 general classification in 8:12:43. His brother Matías was second and Charlie Crawt third, while the Mancor club also won the team classification. Raúl Patiño took the Masters 50 title by just two seconds from Simon McNamara, and Oliver Ries was the leading Masters 60 rider. Jaume Moncadas placed seventh in the combined 50-60 standings and was the best Balearic rider in that field. More than 250 cyclists from around 20 countries underlined the event's place in Mallorca's cycling calendar. Official results and report.
🚴 Enric Mas on winning without losing humility
Enric Mas appeared at an event at Espacio Fundación Telefónica this week to revisit his Vuelta a España victory on 13 September. The rider from Artà discussed humility, leadership, technology and collective effort after winning his first Grand Tour and ending a twelve-year wait for a Spanish winner. Mas highlighted the role of data in modern cycling, as well as the importance of interpreting it within a team. Beyond the result, there is a useful message for everyday riders: progress comes from combining ambition and consistency with informed decisions, without turning every ride into a test. 🌍 Riyadh Urban Cycling Worlds cancelled
The UCI and Saudi Cycling Federation confirmed on 16 October that the Urban Cycling World Championships scheduled for Riyadh on 3-7 November will not proceed. The event was due to host trials and BMX Freestyle Park and Flatland. Their statement attributes the decision to logistical challenges following developments in the region and says the sporting consequences will be communicated later. Until that information appears, any proposed change of venue, calendar or qualification system should be treated as unconfirmed. Official UCI statement.
🔋 Scott brings full suspension to an urban e-bike
Scott introduced the E-Ville, a step-through, full-suspension urban e-bike aimed at everyday and SUV-style use. According to the manufacturer, it uses a Bosch Performance Line CX motor with up to 100 Nm, a removable battery of up to 800 Wh, integrated lights, a rear rack and trailer compatibility. Two versions are listed: the E-Ville 10 SUV and E-Ville 20. The concept is relevant to riding in Mallorca because it prioritises comfort, easy access and carrying capacity, but its performance claims come from Scott. Fit, real-world range, weight and maintenance remain more important than a specification headline when choosing an e-bike. Scott's official E-Ville information.
🌈 Factor Elara wins the Gravel Worlds on debut
The new Factor Elara launched with a result that is hard to overlook: Magnus Bak Klaris won the 2026 UCI Gravel World Championships on it. Factor describes the Elara as a race-focused gravel bike with clearance for tyres up to 57 mm, revised geometry, integrated storage and support for both 1x and 2x drivetrains. The company also publishes aerodynamic gains, although these are manufacturer figures rather than an independent comparison. For riders mixing fast tracks and tarmac in Mallorca, the launch raises a more useful question than what is newest: how much grip, comfort and gearing does your own route demand? ⛔ Women's Vuelta a Andalucía suspends its fifth edition
The organisers of the women's Vuelta a Andalucía announced on 15 October that the fifth edition had been cancelled for financial reasons and a lack of institutional support. Deporinter intends to bring the race back in 2027 and has a UCI calendar slot reserved for 24-26 September. The cancellation leaves a significant gap in Spain's women's calendar and is another reminder that a race needs sustained organisation and funding, not only a successful launch. 📍 The view from Cala Millor
The Masters Challenge shows that cycling in Mallorca does not end with summer or the professional peloton. October continues to attract international riders and island clubs, with shared roads and shorter days. Before an autumn ride, check your lights, tyres and brakes, then set tyre pressure for the surface and load.
